Anchor text is one of those things in SEO that they try to make difficult.
Anchor Text and how to use it, is not difficult to understand.
Simply stated anchor text is a hyperlink within your story.
Here is the HTML to my site along with the anchor text
****<a href=”http://www.rossjoyner.com”>This is your Anchor Text</a>**** [You will see This is your
When you click the Anchor Text it will take you to my site. Now here is what it looks like. If you were to click that, it will bring you right back to my site. This is really simple in wordpress because the editor has an html editor so even if you don’t know html you can write your article and put your link in along with the anchor text and continue with your story buy clicking on the little chain.
To create your Anchor Text you will highlight the text you are going to use and put the HyperLink in.
This I did not know, but I found it when I was doing some research for this article.
[Since the Google "Florida" update (rolled out November 2003) link anchor texts have become hugely important from the SEO perspective. Here's why.The Hilltop Algorithm (patented Google's algorythm effective since the "Florida" update) states that Google will associate your Website with the anchor text of incoming links. What this means is that if you use "green widget accessories" in the anchor text of your incomings links, Google will assign a higher relevancy score to your site for "green widgets" as well as "green widget accessories", and rank it accordingly in its search results.] “Think Long tailed keywords”
What this means in English is that if someone links to your site the anchor text will be considered very important to Google..
You should always make your anchor text look natural. Change your anchor text when you are getting an incoming link so they are not the same and make sure the surrounding text is about the the same thing the anchor text is about. Think about it for a minute if your anchor text was always the same it would not be very natural and that would ring Googles warning bells.
If your anchor text and links were one right after another in a column it would look just like a link farm to google.
One of the most common mistakes I see are, webmasters taking their keyword phrases, stuff them inside anchors link and then email people with link exchange offers asking everyone to use the exact same anchor text.
BIG MISTAKE Google will pick up on that strategy quick. When you are mailing webmasters for a possible link exchange, always use different Anchor Text (the more the better).
